Body Torque Pilates

Rob & Danielle Slape offer pilates classes in Reigate, Betchworth and Dorking every week at varying times to suit most schedules. Pilates is a combination of strengthening, toning and stretching exercises to improve posture and strengthen abdominal muscles.

Pilates improves core stability and will create a more balanced body. Pilates can help those suffering from back and other joint pain, as well as osteoporosis and arthritis, improves pelvic floor function and also promotes relaxation. The Modern Pilates method has been developed in conjunction with physiotherapists and is very safe. The progressive nature of Pilates means that it is suitable for those new to exercise as well as experienced exercisers looking for increased core stability and improved body shape.

Pilates is suitable during pregnancy (with modifications) and especially beneficial in the post natal period (6 weeks +).

Rob Slape

I have always been keen on sport and happy to try anything given the opportunity. Having been a keen swimmer I progressed to waterpolo, where I played for Croydon Amphibians for many years, both in the Surrey and London leagues. After retiring from waterpolo due to injury, and becoming bored with gym sessions with no targeted goal, I tried my hand at Triathlon, which proved to be extremely enjoyable and I have since completed numerous events at various distances including Ironman.

Other sport interest;

  • Karate/martial arts (instructor-Shodan)
  • Windsurfing
  • Sailing
  • Water-skiing
  • Skiing

After Danielle set up Body-Torque in 2003, it was inevitable that I would be required to sample the exercises, after some initial reluctance I was “bitten by the Pilates bug” and was soon planning my own Pilates training route. I opted for the STOTT PILATES method, after investigating other styles. This was due to the diverse nature of the STOTT PILATES method, which offered study in injury rehabilitation, matwork and the full range of Pilates equipment, providing the opportunity to teach at all levels from the most basic to the most demanding/elite athlete.

After some preparatory training in anatomy and human movement, I signed up for an intensive matwork course though Active Pilates and the YMCA FIT in London in 2006. Having successfully completed the matwork course, practical and theory examinations I was certified as a STOTT Pilates Matwork instructor in February 2007. I have since gone on to train on items of small equipment/stability ball and in breast cancer rehab.

Physiotherapist in Brockham

Established in 2006, Nutwood Therapies is a practice combining Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy to provide specialist care.

At Nutwood Therapies our aim is to provide specialist expert care. We like to think we go one step further to ensure the best possible assessment and treatment. We have links with local consultants so if it is something we cannot treat we wont waste your time and money and will refer on. We can refer you for diagnostic tests like MRI scans*. We keep our knowledge up to date and use the latest assessment and treatment methods. Our personal service means that our clients feel valued and fully in control of their rehab. *self funding clients only, your medical insurance may insist on a GP referral in some cases

Why choose physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the only treatment and assessment recognised and deployed by the NHS. It has a scientific basis with treatments and assessments based on research and clinical reasoning. Physiotherapists use their skills to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and maintain recovery. Most injuries, once treated should not require maintenance top up treatments.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapists aim to restore function after injury or illness. They encourage independent living and function, recommending aids or adaptations when necessary to help to achieve this.

What is Hand Therapy?

Hand therapy is a specialist subsection of both occupational and physiotherapy. Our hand therapists work as generic practitioners meaning that they both have skills such as splinting and joint mobilisations so you only require one appointment. It is important after hand operations or injury that you see a specialist as they will know the limitations of your complaint and be able to safely yet effectively rehabilitate you back to full function. Our practioners are members of the British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT).
